3. Album Introduction
(re)generations is a sonic archetype of growth. A Birkinian (re)definition of
complexity was used:
“complexity is understood in terms of the quantity and variety of musical elements or patterns”
(Guy Birkin/Sun Hammer “Complexification”, 2015)
adding in the variables: visual elements*, increase*, and time*, 6 iterations were generated along 1 composition.
Includes archaeological sonic research of a modified Vito Leblanc (ca. 1980) alto saxophone [body, mouthpiece, and reed] that belonged to the father of Chem XP (birth name Chaz), named Clem. One interpretation of the artist’s moniker can be a combination of his and his late father’s names, who suddenly died when the artist was 15. Apocryphally, leaving behind little but an old saxophone from abandoned dreams in Gonzales, Louisiana. The artist melded a recycled water hose into forming a makeshift neck for the saxophone, in order to better allow his ancestors to live and breathe in this project.
